John Moy is the founding member of MOY PATENT LAW GROUP. John's practice focuses on patent litigation, pre-litigation counseling, and dispute resolution. John has considerable experience in all aspects of patent litigation, including trial experience, drafting appellate briefs, post-trial briefs, and dispositive motions, preparing Markman claim construction briefs, deposing key fact and expert witnesses, and handling day-to-day case management responsibilities. He litigates patent matters involving a wide range of technologies, including interactive telephone call processing systems, digital speech compression software, computer displays, semiconductor fabrication tools, pharmaceutical products and processes, and consumer recreational products. John also advises clients on a variety of non-litigation matters, including licensing negotiations, patent reexamination, assessment and avoidance of third party rights, and other patent counseling.
Prior to forming MOY PATENT LAW GROUP, John was Special Counsel in the Intellectual Property Litigation and Patent Counseling & Prosecution practice groups at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP in Reston, VA. He was also previously an attorney at Venable, Baetjer, Howard & Civiletti, LLP in Washington, DC and LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, LLP (now Dewey & LeBoeuf) in New York, NY. Prior to attending law school, John managed customer service operations at E-fax Communications, Inc. in Oakland, CA.
John received his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. During law school, he was Online Editor of the New York University Journal of International Law and Politics. He was also a judicial intern for the Honorable Ronald L. Ellis, U.S. Magistrate Judge, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
John is admitted to practice in Virginia, New York, the District of Columbia, and various federal courts. He is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
John is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the American Bar Association, Intellectual Property Law section.
